Lighting and Latin Concepts

Last week some friends and I went to Mate, in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC, for some of their Latin sushi. Maybe its because we ate off of the half-priced happy hour menu that the sushi was just, eh, and that the Latin part of it completely flew over my head. The mango mojitos, however, were delectable. Definitely worth stopping by during happy hour to have a go at one of these for half price.

Once again, however, it was the lighting and decor that caught my eye.

The restaurant had these swanky Panton spiral lamps, and a cool colorful egg-like chandelier that looks much more engaging in person. Take a look...

...And they even had swanky chairs to match.

Latin Concepts (through Chief Creator and Chief Executive, Mauici Fraga-Rosenfeld) is responsible for Mate in addition to several other restaurants: Ceviche, Chi Cha, Gazuza, Guarapo, Nena and Yaku.

Personally tried: Chi Cha Lounge is a U Street staple with comfortable lounging and savory tapas; Ceviche is in Silver Spring, MD and has good food and great margaritas- the portions aren't huge, but they almost make up for this in flavor; Guarapo in Arlington, VA has great live Latin music with delicious Latin food to match; and Gazuza will be my next venture.

Hasta luego!
