Did You Know...

Chipotle uses naturally raised chicken and pork for all of its 886 stores. They have not yet been able provide naturally raised beef for all of their locations , but 60% of their stores do have it; and 100 percent of their East Coast restaurants do serve naturally raised beef.

Naturally raised, for Chipotle, means the animal is served vegetarian feed and is not given antibiotics or added-growth hormones. It exceeds the USDA's natural meat requirements. They also support the humane treatment of animals.

Happy Weekend!!

The infamous Serendipity 3 is coming to Washington, D.C.! It's based in NY and famous for their Frozen Hot Chocolate, the $1000 Golden Opulence Sundae covered in real 23k edible gold leaf, and the movie Serendipity with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. I can't wait to delve into their yummy confections (oh yeah, they have food there too, but that's so secondary to dessert.)

Have a happy weekend!! Make it sweet :)

Color Quiz

Apartment Therapy did a post called "What Color Matches Your Personality". They asked if you should decorate with the color that matches your personality. Absolutely. If the color is true to you than it only makes sense that using this color in your home will make your home true to you. Take the True Value color quiz to see what color matches your personality.

My color is black, which just so happens to be my favorite color! I don't know how accurate the description of my personality was, but the color match came out perfectly. I use black as an accent in my home. Picture frames, furniture pieces, and other nick knacks. Check out the post I did on The Art of Black.

Do you use your color match in your home?

Liberty of London for Target

Popular UK store, Liberty of London, has produced a line for Target. Boasting of colorful and intriguing prints and florals, they cover everything from bikes to clothes to dishware (and much more). Of course I want to see the home furnishing collection. I'm particularly interested in checking out the dinnerware. Mixing and matching interesting prints with bold solid colors will make for an exciting table.

The line debuts at Target this Sunday, March 14th.

Teardrop

I'm shedding a tear, not only for the Monday looming dramatically in the air, but for how beautiful this Teardrop light pendant is, by Bodo Sperlein. It is whimsical, ethereal, and unique. It endeavors to be a conversation piece in any room.

Desperately Seeking Suzani

I love suzani prints. I'm currently on a mission to find a suzani on Ebay. I don't even know what I want to do with it yet, but I have to have it. I could make pillows, use it as a throw, reupholster a chair, toss it over my bed as a coverlet... I'll figure it out once I get my hands on one. Authentic (especially antique) suzanis can't cost you in the thousands. Of course, I don't plan on paying anything near that.

Suzani means "needlework". It comes from the Persian word "sozan" meaning "a needle". Authentic suzanis are silk thread embroidery panels constructed by women in Uzbekistan (Central Asia). These were created as dowries for their daughters. Now popular in Europe and the US you can find all sorts of fabrics, home furnishings, etc. in this print. Suzanis come in all sorts of colors and patterns, but I'm partial to the Samarkand suzani from the Samarkand region. Take a look...

Multitasking

How clever! They should probably make it a bowl, however. Trying to balance a chicken wing on that little plate defeats the point, especially if you've had a few drinks.

More Bedroom Inspiration

In my last post I expressed how beneficial it is to layer your bedroom with texture, colors and patterns in order to create comfort and warmth. Photographer Deborah McLean does an incredible job capturing this approach superbly.

Do You Love Your Bedroom?

Many of us are existing in aimless, uninspired, neglected bedrooms. It serves its purpose, but it isn't enjoyable. My bedroom is my favorite room in the house. It isn't exactly where I want it to be yet, but it's getting there. I love spending time in there and that's what it's about. It should be a place to get away and escape the world.

Many of us hide behind the fact that not many people will see it. That is no excuse. The bedroom isn't for everyone else, it's for you. You should look forward to spending time in there.

The quickest way to begin a bedroom transformation is to buy new bedding and accent pillows. Changing the look of your bed can change the look of the entire room. An even bigger transformation would be to paint your bedroom. Paint creates mood and drama. Use calm, warm colors like blues and browns and greens with brown undertones. Even purple is calming- maybe a deep aubergine with pops of orange in the bedding or artwork (for the fearless). Gray works well too- especially grays with brown or green undertones.

Just as importantly, it's good to implement layering of different textures, patterns and colors. This is key to creating a warm environment, unless you're going for a more modern, minimalist look; otherwise your room is just boring and under dressed.

Here are some bedroom inspirations to help get you started. It will be so worth the effort, I promise!
