The Art of Using Yellow

Yellow lovers, please do not be offended by words I am about to say, because this is only my personal regard for the color- but I am pretty much opposed to the color yellow. It completely turns me off, especially in design. It bothers my senses, no joke.

I did a little googling on the psychology behind the color to understand why I might feel this way. Apparently yellow can create feelings of frustration and anger. I know I get frustrated when I see it. My own house came with bits of the intrusive color and I had to get rid of it immediately. I didn't care if I had to beg for change on the street to raise money to get rid of the lemony paint color and the tacky 50's looking yellow and white laminate tile.

It also seems like the excuse color when you can't think of anything else to brighten up a room. But thanks to Maryam Montague at My Marrakesh, I am completely convinced that yellow is absolutely usable!

Whoa! In addition to the ridiculously adorable outfit this gorgeous little boy has on, the rich golden color with its marvelous texture and beautiful gold detail is nothing short of amazing. I love it.

I could use something like this for curtains or an accent pillow paired with mocha colored walls containing yellow undertones. Perfect.

I'm still not a yellow fan, but I am now open to maybe a few accent pieces in the yellow family. Who woulda thunk it?

For you yellow lovers, another morsel of yellow inspiration to enjoy...

  1. I like the color because it just brightens things. It can be quite loud sometimes though.
