Monday Blues

It's Monday, and I just want to stay in bed with my head buried among the pillows- preferably these pillows...

What's Going On At Pier1

Pier 1 Imports is great for an eclectic mix of home furnishing ideas. I raced through the store quickly so I wouldn't buy too much, but of course I couldn't leave without buying something. Here are some of the items that caught my eye.

And what did I end up buying...?

Ta-da!

The cobalt blue drinking glasses! The color is such a perfect match for the plates I bought from World Market. I couldn't resist. They were on sale.

Even water will look good in these!

I Spy...

A fabulous pillow that I must have. If only I didn't already have so many other pillows and a budget.

Retro Chic or Retro Bleak?

Soo... I had to go to Des Moines, Iowa for work not too long ago. I stayed at the Sheraton in West Des Moines, and let's say it had its good and its bad points.

The good:

I love the classy, subtle white on white embroidery on this pillow. I want one with my initial on it, STAT!

I was trying to figure out a way to get this sofa back to D.C. No, seriously, I was. Love the color, love the leather, love-love the shape and style.

This carpet is so funky. It really complemented the sofa. I couldn't see it through an entire house, but I definitely would like to see it as an area rug.

The decent:

I mean, its a bed. It was warm, and I love white sheets... decent.

Granite counter tops in the midst of my retro experience...

The bathroom looked like it had been updated since the 70s; so by default, it was decent.

Generally speaking, I like the idea of black and white photos.

The bad:

Plaid pillows? Two toned sofa?

Very masculine. A hotel should cater their design to both sexes.

Meh...

This entire room, with the exception of the kitchen area, looked too outdated.

Ugh. These curtains were horrible. Why? The pillows were bad enough.

Catch You on the Flip Side

Ok, people- I'm on hiatus until next week. Happy Labor Day!

Over the weekend, I'm gonna attempt to find something similar to this spot to be laborless in...

Home Goods Excursion: Part II- Furniture, Pillows and Buddha

More Home Goods finds:

Tufted chairs are my favorite...

This chair really belongs in my house, and not in the store. The pattern isn't great, but the shape and style are perfect.

The silver tacking detail on the back of the chair caught my eye.

Pillows!

I know, more pillows. But I'm addicted... and its such any easy design fix.

'Sigh'- I love these pillows. They would look so good on this bed.

Take your pick. This is on one of many isles of pillows.

Many of you who know me know that I am absolutely a fan of Buddha statues. Let's just say, I have more than one in my house. They make me feel harmonious, and so at peace. Just look into Buddha's face- don't you feel at peace already?

Stay tuned for the final episode of Home Goods Excursion...

On the Cheap: Pillows (revisited)

I've already lectured you on how pillows are an inexpensive way to decorate a room; so I'll just share with you my latest purchase from Marshalls.

I looove red. I am putting it in my bedroom. Just that small pop of color transforms the entire look of the room. It has an elegant sheen to it that makes it perfect for a bedroom. Dying to see what the bed looks like after the new addition? Maybe I'll share it with you one day soon :)

I think I'll blow up the second picture and frame it. It'll make a cool print and will add another pop of color to a different part of the house.

A Touch of the Traditional

I have contemporary taste, but when I saw these pillows, I had to have them. Although they have a traditional print, there is no rule that says you have to keep with one theme. Different style pieces bring interest to the room; and these pillows somehow seem to fit when surrounded by contemporary items. Simply placing it next to a more modern pillow makes the traditional up-to-date chic.

Pillows are a great and inexpensive way to style a room. You know I got these on the cheap at Marshalls. The color, texture and patterns can change the mood of the room instantly.

Stunning detail. Such a great find. Pieces like these belong in any room.
